The Beard Liberation Front the informal network of beard wearers has named the TUC as the Beard Friendly Employer of 2022

The award given annually is about the commitment of an employer to equality and diversity rather than the number of beards it employs

BLF organiser Keith Flett said the new TUC General Secretary Paul Nowak is follicularly challenged but this just adds to the diversity. No dumping on baldies here

Former England cricket captain Michael Vaughan is not currently broadcasting for the BBC after issues around racism in the game were raised by the ruling ECB. Vaughan denies all allegations.

The BBC accounts for 20/21 reveal Vaughan was paid in the £180,000 bracket £50,000 less than the previous year. Gary Lineker got £1.35m by contrast but one hopes any payments to Vaughan are on hold

The Beard Liberation Front the informal network of beard wearers has given a rare permission to shave during the current hot weather.

Karl Marx did shave his beard in Algiers in April 1882 although it’s unclear if this was entirely weather related. Pictures of a clean shaven Marx are fake tho some were taken and may still exist.

With temperatures set to be hot in many areas over the next few days the Beard Liberation Front has issued an alert:

1 do not venture out wearing shorts in the middle of the day

2 Only Tory leadership candidates go out in the midday sun

3 Under no circumstances wear clothes as pictured

4 Separate guidance on beard trimming will be issued.

Tracey desparate for money after the illegal closure of Grey Gables has started working shifts at one of Borsetshire’s notorious employers the chicken factory. Long a source of low pay, long shifts and disreputable practices, Tracey hasn’t made a good start by suggesting a safety improvements. She would be better off attempting to unionise the place

Thd Durham Miners Gala dates back to 1871 and July 11th marks the 140th Big Meeting.

It’s been seen down the decades as a rather right wing Labourist occasion with typically not much fun or politics. Politics there were- the famous Lenin banner and the Little Moscows

Even so an account by Tony Benn of an early 1960s gala breakfast with Harold Wilson , Frank Cousins and himself gives a flavour. They receive the miners lodges from the balcony of the County Hotel.

Those days are gone and the Gala has been reinvented as a community based day this year with a focus on celebrating trade union collectivism, community spirit and international solidarity. Keir Starmer presumably breakfasted elsewhere but maybe in future Andy Burnham will put this great northern occasion once again at the centre of national labour politics and culture

Beard Liberation Front the informal network of beard wearers has reminded Tory leadership candidates that the last Tory PM with a beard Lord Salisbury was in office 1895-1902 by current standards significant longevity.

Nadahim Zahawi’s appointment as Chancellor makes him the first holder of the post since Harold Macmillan (1955-57). Macmillan resigned to replace Eden as Prime Minister

He has now announced he will stand as Tory leader. Will he be the new Macmillan or is the best Zahawi can hope for is an early visit to the barbers?

After the case of senior Tory MP Chris’s the Beard Liberation Front has warned that any attempt by Tory MPs to use its informal networks and culture as a way of promoting their doubtful activities will be rebutted and exposed.

The BLF says that while it has anything goes approach that does not include bullying and harassment.
