Coronation Roast Ox Crisis
Roasting an Ox is a genuine-ish Coronation tradition.
An Ox and four sheep were roast for the 1821 Coronation at Windsor along with 5000 loaves and an Ox was also roast for Victoria’s Jubilee’s in 1887 and 1897.
This year the Whole Roast Ox Company has had no bookings for the Coronation. A roast Ox can feed 1500 people and costs around £5000. One view is that the cost of living crisis has had its impact..
