The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has paid tribute to the hirsute singer Roger Whittaker who has died at 87.
He was well known for hits such as Durham Town but also for a distinctive beard whose follicles he used to modulate whistling.
BLF Organiser Keith Flett said Roger Whittaker had one of the most well known beards in popular music from the late 1960s through to the 1980s. His capacity to use the beard to promote a distinctive and stylish whistle was legendary.
