The results in the Mid-Beds and Tamworth elections underline that we have reached last orders time for the Tory Government but that is not all there is to politics. 55 years ago on 27th October 1968 100,000 people marched in London calling for an end to the Vietnam War. This weekend similar numbers will be marching again calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Gaza war. The demand for peace from the streets was not reflected in official politics in 1968 anymore than it is now, but it remains an essential part of our democracy.
