Greta Thunberg and others were arrested for protesting outside a fossil fuel summit meeting at a Mayfair hotel in 2023. The arrests were made under Section 14 of the Public Order Act which then Home Secretary Suella Braverman had enhanced to make it easier for protesters to be arrested for ‘minor disorder’.
The change was chucked out by the Lords but Braverman found a Parliamentary dodge to make it law anyway.
The case was heard at Westminster Magistrates Court this week and the spendidly named Judge Laws chucked it out too. He noted that the police had no real idea why they were arresting people or where a suitable place for the protest might be.
