Campaigners say Trump VP Nominee JD Vance is bringing the hirsute into disrepute
The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that JD Vance, Trump’s Vice President Nominee, is bringing the hirsute into disrepute.
While Vance was originally a critic of Trump in the past five years or so he has adopted the hard right politics familiar in the UK from right-wing Tory MPs.
Speaking at a National Conservatism Conference in Washington last week Vance made Islamophobic comments about people in the UK
As the former MP for Stoke on Trent North Jonathan Gullis demonstrated while such politics do not rule out a beard, frequent outbursts attacking often random targets, can give a very bad public impression of beard wearers.
The last US Presidential candidate with a full beard was Benjamin Harrison in 1892, while the last UK Prime Minister with a beard was Lord Salisbury in 1902.
BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, beards at the top of US politics are very rare, rarer even than in the UK. However unlike in Britain in the US beard wearing amongst sections of the hard and far right is not uncommon.
