The Guardian sacked long time cartoonist Steve Bell in October 2023 for drawing a cartoon that was mildly critical of war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu. The cartoon was of course criticised by the usual suspects and the Guardian caved in. It does not appear ever to have apologised and the paper is much the poorer for lacking Steve Bell’s cartoons.

Thanks to the NUJ’s The Journalist we do now have a Steve Bell cartoon capturing Keir Starmer as of July 2024. It is of course right on point and probably still too much for the Guardian
