Campaigners say ‘cheating’ at World Conker Championships was a good thing.
The Campaign for Real Conkers which encourages no rules, anything goes, conker playing has said that alleged cheating at the World Conker Championships, held at Southwick on Sunday is a good thing.
The head judge also one of the winners was found to have a steel conker in his pocket.
The Championships have long been obsessed with organic conkers, whereas the Campaign for Real Conkers sees nothing wrong with baking, soaking in vinegar, and other ways to potentially enhance the conkers performance.
Campaign organiser Keith Flett said, we think playing conkers should be fun, not controlled by rules and regulations. While the World Championships raises funds for charity its sectarian approach has done no favours to the long term survival of conker playing
