The Campaign for Real Conkers, which supports free form conker playing without absurd rules and regulations, has said that the example of the Peckham Conker Championships, held last Sunday, is to be praised.
A Guardian report is here:
Compared to the World Conker Championships also held last Sunday at Southwick is a robust free for all.
The campaigners say that conkers is a game to be played, not a spectator sport and the World Conker Championships focus on rules puts people off.
CFRC Organiser Keith Flett said, the reality is that conker playing is in decline. If it is not to become a niche tradition more people need to be attracted to actually play it. Peckham is doing a good job in that respect
