Rachel Reeves is in Davos and has taken a Q&A after making a speech. One interesting Q&A is below
Q: Tony Blair (who’s in Davos this week) was famously relaxed about wealth creation – are you?
“Absolutely”, Reeves replies, repeating that the UK wants to welcome the best people from around the world to help grow the economy.

In fact the original source of this sentiment was not Blair but Peter Mandelson, who appears set to be the next UK Ambassador in Washington. He said:
“We are intensely relaxed about people getting filthy rich… as long as they pay their taxes.”
Note that he expected the ‘filthy rich’ to pay their taxes, a point Rachel Reeves seems to have missed. However wealth creators may well be filthy rich but have a wider impact on matters than just their own bank balances and offshore funds
