The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has confirmed after the matter was raised on social media that author and broadcaster Michael Rosen is not eligible to be shortlisted for the Beard of Wales 2025 title.
Voting is currently underway for the title (pinned @kmflett on Twitter pending polls on other social media platforms) which is announced on St David’s Day, March 1st.
Michael Rosen is a former Beard of the Year and despite posting a few lines from Sosban Fach has no obvious qualifications to be on the Beard of Wales shortlist for 2025.
The BLF takes a relaxed attitude to shortlisting particularly when it comes to beard styles. However it is expected that those on the Beard of Wales shortlist have made a positive impact in the public eye either because they are Welsh or have been active in Wales.
In a separate announcement the BLF has responded to queries about why four times former winner Michael Sheen is not on the list this year. He has made a positive impact in the public eye but primarily by playing the perpetually clean shaven Nye Bevan.
BLF Organiser Keith Flett said, we are internationalists but within that there is room for a focus on national differences one of which is the annual Beard of Wales title
