More on the politics of cheese: Left v Right?

More on the survey of 1,014 people on French cheese by the Paris based Academie Phormos.

The Survey found that 9% of supporters of the left leader Jean Luc-Mélenchon did not eat cheese and 13% of supporters of Green leader Yannik Jadot did not eat cheese. However only 4% of people who backed fascist leader Marine Le Pen swerved cheese and 3% of those who back centrist President Macron abstain from cheese.

There is clearly a left-right divide in cheese in France but again it seems unclear if this replicated in the UK. Further polls are always worth treating with a degree of scepticism. When Mélenchon has lunch with the Financial Times at a Paris restaurant (3rd May 2025 edition) he started with a cheese souffle

Um… did the survey ask those who didn’t eat cheese if they were vegan? It wouldn’t be entirely surprising if a higher percentage of Green supporters were vegan – indeed, it would be surprising that more weren’t.

    True.
