The 1895 General Election was held between July 13th and August 7th and resulted in a Tory majority of 153.

The ILP standing for the first time in a General Election (founded January 1893) stood 28 candidates. None were successful including Tattersall in Preston.

The above is an extract from the Preston ILP 1895 Election Minute Book which is digitised and available free on-line via the LSE.

Tattersall got 4,781 votes, 22.4% of the vote and came third, the winning candidate being a Tory

Tattersall had an interesting political history, reflecting the difficulties of independent labour politics in breaking from the influence of existing political interests
