The hop picking season is largely if not entirely done (late August through to mid/late September) and in 2025 is mechanised with limited labour. In the 1950s it was done by hand and provided a sort of working holiday for Londoners to spend several weeks in the Kent hopfields.
It was a significant enough movement of labour for special trains to be used. A world we have lost although short term and badly paid labour is still very much with us.
