Jake Weatherald is only the second Australian over 30 to open the batting for his team on debut, as he will do in Perth, in 50 years. Is this a significant or meaningless statistic? We will start to find out over the next few days. The alternative, the genuinely youthful Sam Konstas, has had a poor early season in Australia. He is 20 years old so his time may yet come.
