Palestine Action supporters on remand in prison, some of whom are on hunger strike, should be released on remand. David Lammy is not just the Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Secretary but also the MP for Tottenham. Many in his Constituency have a powerful and historically based understanding of the impact of racism, discrimination and prejudice originating from Government level. David Lammy born and brought up in London N17 knows that.
As a former Chair and Secretary of Haringey Trades Union Council I have worked with David Lammy over the years. He has a decent record on core issues in Tottenham such as poverty, housing and jobs as well of course as racism. Disagreements of course there have been, perhaps particularly in recent times over the direction of the Labour Government.
However when it comes to the issue of hunger strikers the New Year message to him must surely be: do better.
I note that John McDonnell has tabled an EDM calling on you to meet the legal representatives of the hunger strikers. I really hope that it is not too late
