The Beard Liberation Front, the informal network of beard wearers, has said that Manchester United Jim Ratcliff has brought the hirsute into disrepute following his racist comments that immigrants had ‘colonised’ Britain.
His comments have been condemned in an uncharacteristically robust manner by Keir Starmer while support has come from Nigel Farage and GB News.
The campaigners say that Ratcliff’s statement underlines the point that far from every beard wearer is progressive, tolerant and open minded. That is why the BLF’s activities over 30 years have focused on identifying those who promote a positive image of the hirsute which Ratcliff certainly does not.
