Opening the books on Mountbatten Windsor. Times reveals files are closed until 2065

In Uncategorized on February 20, 2026 by kmflett

Above is an extract from The Times Editorial on the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten Windsor (20th February 2026).

The Times of course does not want to get rid of the Royals but it notes a moment of danger in particular around the obsessive secrecy of Royal affairs.

It notes that files relating to Mountbatten Windsor’s time as a trade envoy (2001-2011) are closed until 2065. It surely time to open the books. There may of course be passages that for one reason or another have to be redacted but this should be kept to a minimum. Mountbatten Windsor was performing a public role and in a democratic society the public must have a right to know what he was up to.
