Does it matter that the latest Tory Shadow Chancellor helped write Liz Truss’s 2022 Mini-Budget?
On Monday Andrew Griffith was appointed Tory Shadow Chancellor. Griffith has some financial experience in Government including being partly responsible for writing Liz Truss’s September 2022 Mini-Budget which crashed the economy.
The world moves on and the Tory press is currently trying to claim that Andy Burnham’s mere existence (as they also note he has not so far actually done much, but then he’s only been PM for 10 weeks)is spooking the bond markets. In fact the bond markets are primarily spooked by what Trump is doing in Iraq and elsewhere.
However while the Telegraph (which for the second day in a row has reported that the Greens control Camden Council- they don’t) thinks that Burnham making jibes at Griffiths links to the Truss era are tedious.
However it seems (Mirror report July 2026) that Truss remains a Tory member and Badenoch has done nothing about it. In short Burnham has a point.
