First as tragedy, then as farce. Liz Truss publishes new book

In Uncategorized on October 21, 2026 by kmflett

Liz Truss has a new book out on 26th October. It is of modest length (like her Premiership) and may or may not have been assisted by Co-Pilot. It will no doubt be an interesting distraction from next week’s Budget.

The Publishers Synopsis

“I was Prime Minister of Britain. But I discovered that being Prime Minister didn’t necessarily mean being in power.” Liz Truss

In this explosive insider account, former British Prime Minister Liz Truss revisits the extraordinary events of 2022 from inside Downing Street, challenging the establishment narrative surrounding the Mini-Budget and revealing a far deeper struggle over who really controls Britain.

Truss exposes the immense influence wielded by unelected institutions, from the Bank of England and the Treasury to the Office for Budget Responsibility, and reveals how the forces which brought down her government went far beyond economics.

She examines the gilt-market crisis, the hidden vulnerabilities of pension funds, the power of the permanent bureaucracy, hostile political briefings and an establishment determined to defend the status quo.

But this is not simply the story of one government’s downfall. It is a warning about British democracy itself.

If elected governments cannot implement the policies voters choose, who is really in charge?

And can Britain escape managed decline before it is too late?
