Abdul El-Sayed has won the Senate election in Michigan becoming the first Muslim to sit in the Senate.
His platform included Medicare for all and an end to US funding for Israeli weapons
During the campaign Trump vilified him in Islamophobic terms and a fellow Democrat defected to the Republicans.
He still carried the vote.
Of course its not just voting but the grassroots campaign that delivered the victory that will need to continue being active
