Fascist Danny Tommo organiser of the blackshorts is currently grifting for a boat.
The Times reports that an earlier boat named The Patriot that he had grifted for sunk at Littlehampton earlier in the year. Although he tried to blame left sabotage the report notes that the boat sunk after it had mechanical difficulties. He was charged £1,775 by Littlehampton Harbour for the recovery of the boat.
His latest grift appears to have raised £20K for a new boat.
As often his activities have an unintentional comic aspect. Unfortunately the impact is potentially serious in terms of harassment, violence and racism
The Holborn & St Pancras By Election takes place on 8th October. The previous MP Keir Starmer was known as an Arsenal fan. In fact support for Arsenal appears to be the only actual principle he has stuck to over the years.
The two main candidates are Labour’s Sagal Abdi-Wali and the Greens Zack Polanski
Abdi-Wali is reported in the Sunday Times (20th September) as being a Spurs fan. Given the clubs recent record this doesn’t seem like the best of omens.
Its not clear fi Polanski is a football fan or supports a team but given that he lives in Hackney Clapton Community FC would be the obvious side, a fan owned football club.
Joe Grundy (b 18th September 1921): A Proletarian Salute
Edward Kelsey, a lifelong trade unionist, died in April 2019 aged 88 and the character he represented for so long in the Archers Joe Grundy died a little short of 100 years of age in October 2019.
Joe Grundy was born 105 years ago on 18th September 1921
The BBC’s report from Ambridge on 20th September featured Eddie and George Grundy reminiscing about Joe and his lifelong fight against ruling class Ambridge.
Joe’s funeral was held on 8th November 2019, at St Stephens Church Ambridge
There was a lot of memorialising about the late Joe Grundy in Ambridge after his death. His nemesis Bert Fry wrote a poem and the Professor tinkled the keyboards with a special tune, believed to have been a variation on The Wurzels, I am a cider drinker
Some of the memories were less than satisfactory however. David Archer claimed that Joe Grundy was a poacher and, by definition that this was wrong. The Ambridge Socialist believes that Joe Grundy was not poaching but taking animals from common land for his own use and purposes. Further Archer claimed that Joe Grundy’s dog had to be shot by the Archer Dynasty as it was worrying sheep. This was simply an act of class war and vengeance on the Archers’ part and deserves to be remembered as such.
Joe Grundy was a fearless and tireless opponent of the rich of Ambridge and deserves to be remembered on the 102nd anniversary of his birth as a proletarian hero. Someone who was always for the many of Ambridge not the few, otherwise known as the Archer Dynasty
Nigel Farage has been in the US again speaking at an event where Tom Holman Trump’s advisor on the paramilitary ICE force.
Farage said he wanted to bring ICE to the UK which will clearly be well received in Clacton except those who are despatched to foreign jails innocent or not. He also claimed that the Trump regime has been unfairly reported in the UK media and in his view was doing a good job,
It has not yet been revealed who paid for Farage’s latest jaunt
It is probably not the first case but Carol was eventually bored to death by Alan the Vicar reading her some, what he claimed, were appropriate prayers. In any event Carol has been written out after a six month sojourn. We must reflect that David Archer has never thought of prayers as a way of despatching his various victims.
Team Harrison?
The Ambridge Socialist monitors the Archers chat boards and has noted a significant lobby for Team Harrison.
Harrison a born again Christian (tho he seems to have forgotten) a police officer who beat up George Grundy and someone who fervently believes in having children although he wont of course be the person to deliver them. He does not have the support of the Ambridge Socialist. At the same time Fallon is not being helped by Jolene and in particular Kenton.
Lily tells Kenton where to get off
Lily has told Kenton that her liaison with Harrison, such as it is, is none of his business and she is right. Kenton often gets lost in the moral maze.
Esme and class politics
Esme has inferred that Eddie Grundy is a ‘liar’. Indeed generations of farmers and tenant farmers have had the same opinion because of their class politics. We can accept that Esme is struggling to keep the farm afloat but dissing Eddie and being rude to Lynda and Robert cannot be excused
The Repair Shop
The Archers promotion of the BBC TV series continues. Repairing things doesn’t make great radio which is why it’s on TV.
If you drink Murphy’s Stout, Birra Moretti or Beavertown you may be interested to know that you may be able to find the beers even more easily on the bar in UK pubs.
Heineken owns all three brands, along with many others. The Sunday Times (20th Sept) reports that its Star Pubs and Bars division which already has 2,350 pubs is bidding to buy 300 pubs from Stonegate. They are a bigger still pub operator who are looking to sell pubs to pay down debts.
If the deal goes through it will restrict choice on the bar even more.
What is to be done?
While not perfect (what is) the Campaign for Real Ale is currently running a campaign which addresses the demand for authenticity in beer. In this case Murphys is not brewed in Ireland, Birra Moretti is not brewed in Italy and Beavertown is not an indy craft brewer. Its comes out of a state of the art brewery in Ponders End.
David Kynaston has written interesting books on cricket but is perhaps best known as a social historian who has been published detailed histories of post-1945 Britain for some years now.
His latest book Deep Into The Sixties Britain 1965-66 is published on 24th September. Like others in the series it provides interesting and often quirky details about everyday life quoting from original sources like diaries. Kynaston notes the comment for example that the 1960s never reached Blackburn.
He tried when at Oxford to get E P Thompson’s Making of the English Working Class discussed but was ‘immediately closed down by the tutor’ (Times 19th September).
He completed a PhD at LSE in 1983 but then quite academia to become an independent researcher, much as Thompson did himself in the early 1970s. It was a shrewd move. We would not have had his detailed social histories had he remained anchored in what has increasingly become the business University.
